A Dream Come True
We Built The Homes Ourselves
We're Steve & Karen Crandall and we had a dream to escape to the Bahamas and live the Island Lifestyle....except for one reality. We still had to work and could not be beach bums fulltime....yet. So, we we built these 2 wonderful homes with the help of some wonderful Bahamian friends and are sharing it with nice renters until we can come to Guanay Cay all the time.
Thanks Lowell, Wilson, Augie & Bob
We were lucky to get the help of Lowell Roberts, an experienced, quality builder to guide us from start to finish. Steve worked every day with the crew sawing, nailing and sharing some laughs to make Karen's house design and kitchen layouts come to life. It was hot, hard work from the clearning of the lot May 10 2005 to the finish April 1, 2006, but the final construction details are full of quality, durarability and beauty. Thanks to Lowell's wife, Jackie Roberts for fixing Steve home cooked meals and making him feel so welcome in their home. We couldn't have survived without the Guana Cay Harbour Grocery store and the kindness of Sylvan and Emily. Through this building experience, we have felt the goodness of all our Guana Cay neighbors and have made wonderful new friends.
Why the name "Lemon Tree House"?
It was such a nice surprise that when the spot for the house was cleared, and the dense old vegetation was removed, a blooming large Lemon Tree appeared. It bore big, sweet lemons after just a few months, and are told the tree was quite old. Later some more smaller lemon trees were found down in the thick bush around the house that was saved for privacy. These trees are rare on a sand and rock island and we wanted to honor ther presence in the homes name.
